A group of young performers is preparing to tackle the best of the West End in their next show.

Phoenix Keynsham Youth Theatre is presenting a musical extravaganza filled with songs from shows that have all scooped the prestigious Olivier Award, London theatre’s equivalent of the Oscars.

West End Winners will feature numbers from Phantom of the Opera, Billy Elliot, Hairspray, Cats, Blood Brothers and Top Hat to name a few – all performed by singers and dancers aged from 10 to 17.

The show will run over three nights at Broadlands Academy, St Francis Road, from Thursday, November 16, to Saturday, November 18, at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

The group celebrated its third birthday in June and staged Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in April. There was also awards success with a nomination for the group’s first ever show, Be Our Guest, in the most recent National Operatic and Dramatic Association awards.

The group is open to youngsters aged from 10 to 17 whatever level of talent or experience they have and offers tuition in all aspects of performance, including acting, singing and dancing, as well as backstage work and front-of-house experience.

Rehearsals for West End Winners began in May, led by director Jo Meredith, musical director Steve Drew and choreographer Tracey English.
