Keynsham Town boost squad with signings
Although Keynsham Town’s season was put on hold early in November due to the latest lockdown, there has been no rest for the club’s committee or management team.
On the field, manager John Allen has been able to boost the first-team squad with the addition of two more quality players.
Firstly, centre-forward Callum Baker joined the Ks from Bishop Sutton, and he was quickly followed through the Crown Fields turnstile by centre-half Jamie Gregory from Westbury United.
John said: “Callum will add both strength and energy to our forward line, and is no stranger to the league and level, having previously played for Bitton. We are looking forward to seeing him link up with our current attackers and becoming an integral part of our side.
“Jamie was on the books of Bristol City and West Brom as a youngster, and has been playing in our division this season with Westbury. He is young and hungry, and will undoubtedly strengthen our back line.”
Off the field, 2020 was always going to be hard for funding a football club, so the Ks committee looked in the summer to expand their sponsorship with affordable packages for squeezed financial budgets.
Knowing that business and the trades would be finding money tight after the first lockdown, the club expanded their strategy to target lots of small contributions from companies. In return, the club could help by promoting those companies on social media , the club website and at home games.
With football now called off again, the club’s marketing team are once again talking to their sponsors to see how they can help them, such as promoting them on social media in the crucial run-up to Christmas.
At the same time, Keynsham Town have been helping local charities in their hour of need. Donations have been made to Children’s Hospice South West, the Jessie May Foundation and Charlton House Care Home.
As recently as November, the club helped an organisation in Keynsham that helps children who have to use walking frames to play football to continue to do so as funds became short.
The club would like to thank all of their sponsors, without whom they would certainly have struggled financially.
The Ks are due to be back in action on Saturday December 5, subject to no other Covid-19 restrictions. The club will continue to do everything they can to make the AJN Stadium a safe environment for spectators.
Home attendances have been higher so far this season, as people who remain unable to watch live professional football realise what an excellent value-for-money alternative non-league football represents.
The forthcoming home games for the Ks at Crown Fields, including the lunchtime local derby on Boxing Day against Brislington, are as follows:
- Saturday Dec 5: First XI v Exmouth Town, 3pm
- Saturday Dec 19: First XI v Hallen, 3pm
