English teacher in national awards final
A TEACHER at Wellsway School has been shortlisted for a TESSA - the profession’s equivalent of the Oscars.
Deesha Mondair is a finalist in the New Teacher of the Year category of the awards, run by the Times Educational Supplement (TES).
The winners will be revealed at a glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London, on June 21, hosted by comedian Harry Hill.
Miss Mondair, an English teacher, has also been invited to a reception at the House of Commons on June 5 to mark her achievement in reaching the shortlist.
The Tes Schools Awards celebrate the extraordinary commitment, quality and innovation shown by teachers and support staff across the UK.
Wellsway School’s curriculum director of English Ms Brooks said: “This nomination is well-deserved as Miss Mondair is an exemplary teacher who has involved herself enthusiastically in both the work of the English department and the whole school.”
