Covid-19 testing centre role for Scout HQ

A new walk-through Covid-19 testing site is set to open at 1st Keynsham Scouts’ headquarters in Ashton Way.

The initiative is part of the Government’s UK-wide drive to continue to improve the accessibility of coronavirus testing for local communities.

The Scout group have agreed for the Department of Health and Social Care to use their main building as a testing centre.

Work to adapt the building was continuing on Friday January 30 in preparation for its imminent opening, the date of which had not been confirmed.

Those with coronavirus symptoms must book an appointment online or by calling 119, with the centre’s location off the High Street making it easily accessible without a car. Appointments will be made available each day.

Len Bridges, 1st Keynsham Scouts’ chairperson, said: “This is 1st Keynsham’s way of giving something back and is a fantastic testament to the role the Scout group plays within our community.

“These are difficult times and we face real health risks.

“The best thing we can do to help young people and Scouting at the moment is to help everyone get back to normality as quickly as possible.”

Virtual Scouting away from the building will continue as planned. Should readers wish to donate to the Scout group in recognition of their gesture and ongoing efforts to the community, their JustGiving page is https://justgiving.com/1stkeynshamscouts
