Community rallies round to fund IVF after Keynsham couple's devastating loss
Thousands of pounds have been donated to give a Keynsham couple another chance at IVF treatment, after they suffered the heartbreak of losing their baby daughter in December.
Rhian and Matt Ridgway had been due to welcome their baby girl at the end of November but she was tragically stillborn.
The couple named her River Emilia and they were cared for at the RUH’s Forget Me Not suite at the hospital’s birthing centre, which supports families who have suffered bereavement.
Little River had been conceived through IVF and any further rounds of treatment will cost £6,000.
Relatives rallying round the devastated couple decided to launch a campaign to raise money to give them another chance at becoming parents – and have been amazed by the community’s response, raising more than £4,000 so far.
Matt’s sister Samantha Holt said: “Losing River is the most painful thing we’ve ever been through as a family but we’ve always been very close so we’re helping each other through it.
“There will always be up and down days but we think of her every day and see her in every rainbow or bright star.
“We’ve all been blown away by the amount of support our fundraising page has had. We never expected it to raise so much. Even strangers have donated so we’re incredibly thankful.”
Now five of the couple’s family members – Matt’s sisters Samantha and Claire, stepmum Beverley, brother James and James’s girlfriend Fai – will be running the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday, March 17, and are hoping sponsorship will add to the total already raised.
