Five colleagues from a Keynsham company spurred each other on to complete the Bristol Half Marathon, raising nearly £700 in the process.

Team CASA – made up of Jon House, George Vickery, Joe Long, Ben House and Aidy Muttram – from CASA Environmental Services all the crossed the finish line on September 13 after joining forces to raise money for a good cause that has every member of the firm’s support.

The group has now handed £692.51 to Mesothelioma UK and a company spokesperson explained: “We chose to fundraise for Mesothelioma UK as they provide valuable support and resources to mesothelioma sufferers and their families when diagnosed with the disease.

“Mesothelioma is a disease which comes from exposure to asbestos and as a surveying company we provide a service to let people know where asbestos is in their properties and provide recommendations on how to deal with the asbestos.”

Jill Lemon, Mesothelioma UK fundraising and marketing manager, thanked the team and said the money would go a long way in helping to improve the services the charity provides.

“Working for CASA Environmental Services, these guys know only too well the effect that asbestos can have on one’s health and so many in the United Kingdom are suffering with mesothelioma. We need funds for more treatments, trials and research.

“With this in mind, the guys became ‘Team CASA’ outside of their work environment to support those families who are living every day with mesothelioma.

“Taking on a half marathon is a massive challenge even for those that run and train regularly, but Team CASA took it in their stride and they did it with aplomb and self-belief and it just shows that getting together with the same goal in mind anything can be achieved, and didn’t they just do that!”
