Following an incident in Minsmere Road, Keynsham last night Tuesday May 7 we have issued the following updated statement:
Chief Superintendent Geoff Spicer who is the District Commander for Banes said: "Last night we were called to an address in Minsmere Road shortly after 6pm. This followed reports of a domestic incident involving a firearm.
"As a result a man was injured and remains in hospital in a stable condition. The man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.
"Whilst I cannot talk in detail about this incident, I would like to take this opportunity to reassure residents and our wider communities that this was an isolated incident - extremely rare in Avon and Somerset - but specifically in a community like Keynsham.
"Our firearms officers undergo specialist training to deal with incidents involving firearms. Last night was an example where we responded quickly to keep the wider public safe.
"This matter has been referred to our Professional Standards Department and the Independent Police Complaints Commission who will investigate.
"I'd like to thank residents for the patience and support during this time."
