Work to begin on outdoor gym in Keynsham Memorial Park

Work will get under way on creating an outdoor gym in Keynsham's Memorial Park on Monday, March 9.
The equipment will be installed in an area near Bath Hill East car park, the location that came out on top at a public exhibition of the plans last month. The other option on show at the event, which was held at the library on February 5 and was attended by around 40 people, was a site near the remains of Keynsham Abbey.
The new outdoor gym will include outdoor fitness kit and three new measured and marked park trails for running, jogging and walking, which will follow existing paths.
The gym is part of a wider £30,000 regeneration project in the park, which will include widening of the entrance from the High Street with an extended hard surface put in, linking it to the existing path.
Six new welcome signs will be installed at the entrances and there are also plans to plant more flowers and shrubs in the park, which last year won a Gold Award in the RHS in Bloom Awards for the first time.
A B&NES Council spokesperson said: "At the event, we also asked for feedback on the location of the old boundary seat. We will consult Keynsham Town Council before making a decision on this. This stone seat used to be on the old county bridge and will be reinstated in the park."
Work on the gym is expected to take around 10 days, after which the council’s active lifestyles and health improvement team will provide an outdoor fitness coach and running leader to run sessions on the new equipment and park trails. This would include Run Fit classes and Run Start beginner running courses.
