Saltford theatre group stages musical as follow-up to acclaimed debut show

Members of a Saltford drama group are busy preparing for their second show, a follow-up to their well-received debut performance last year.
Saltford Community Association Musical Productions (SCAMP) will present the musical Songs for A New World for four nights in June.
The group’s first show, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, which was staged at Saltford Hall in February last year, is a hard act to follow after it earned a nomination for Best Musical in the Rose Bowl Awards, which celebrate amateur theatre across the South West.
Choosing the right show as a follow-up after such an achievement was a tough task for the group, who have decided on a change in direction from last year’s comic offering.
A SCAMP spokesperson said: “Songs For A New World features an incredible, uplifting score from Jason Robert Brown. Emotive and vocally challenging, it really pushes the boundaries for singers in technique, range and complex harmony.
“It has taken a lot of hard work so far, but the results are very special indeed. The whole cast has contributed ideas and creative inspiration to the presentation of the scenes, which is giving the show a fresh and unique feel.”
The show will run at Saltford Hall from Wednesday, June 15, to Saturday, June 18, at 8pm. Tickets are priced at £10 (£8 concessions) and are available on 07789 716542 or at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. They can also be purchased from Saltford Post Office and Saltford Hall Booking Office.
