Saltford nurse Ruby gets into character for the Bath Half - as Mr Blobby!

Friends and family have helped a Saltford nurse smash her fundraising target – after she told them she would run the Bath Half Marathon dressed as Nineties TV character Mr Blobby if they all got behind her.
Cheers of “Blobby, blobby, blobby” greeted Ruby Nicholson-Pallett, 24, who works at the RUH, at every stage of the 13.1-mile course on Sunday, March 1.
But the attention was gratefully received as it helped Ruby raise awareness of Eating Stones, a small charity set up by fellow nurse Christopher Ferry from Newcastle to provide a school, clinic and orphanage for 60 children in Nairobi, Kenya.
Ruby said: “Although I’d never run for charity before, I’ve watched a few fun runs and the people in costume always get the biggest cheers along the way. Thinking that might be a way to raise awareness as well as funds for a relatively small and lesser-known charity, I decided to up the stakes.”
She appealed to friends, colleagues and relatives to help her reach £400, in return for which she would wear the inflatable pink suit.
The morning of the race dawned and Ruby awoke to find her target had been surpassed, with nearly £500 in total, including Gift Aid. “When I saw how much people had donated I knew I had to do it. There was no question of walking or taking it easy either. I donned the costume and ran all the way.”
Although she said the suit felt like “a big sweaty tent over my head”, Ruby finished the race in a respectable two hours, 10 minutes and 58 seconds.
