Public meetings mark next step for Keynsham Neighbourhood Development Plan

Published on: 02 Sep 2016

It’s full steam ahead for the next stage of drawing up a neighbourhood development plan for Keynsham, and residents and businesses are urged to get on board.

A series of meetings will be held in September to look in detail at the town’s strengths, weaknesses and issues it may face in the future.

The events are part of a major project by the community to draw up a vision for how Keynsham should develop over the next 20 years. The final document, once approved by a planning inspector and a public referendum, will then inform planning decisions.

A draft vision drawn up since the project’s launch in February, sets out aims that include retaining the town’s independence as it grows, encouraging business and the creative sector, protecting its conservation area and enhancing its heritage.

The next step is a series of introductory topic group meetings, which will look in detail at a number of key areas for the plan: Road, Transport, Parking and Infrastructure; Heritage, Culture, Tourism, Marketing and Development for the Built Environment; Recreation, Leisure, Sport, Health and Community Education; Sustainability, Environmental and Ecological.

During autumn, the groups will focus on Keynsham’s strengths, weaknesses, aims and possible threats to draw up surveys to get feedback from the community.

Meanwhile, business owners, employers and retailers are all welcome to join the Business, Employment and Economic Growth topic group at a business breakfast.

The dates and venues for each of the meetings are in the panel on the right. To get involved in any of the meetings, email or phone 0117 986 8683.
