Keynsham's open-air gym ready for action in Memorial Park

An outdoor gym – the first in Bath and North East Somerset – has been installed in Keynsham’s Memorial Park.
The set of equipment, which includes a ski stepper, health walker, a trinity cycle, sit-up benches and a pull-down challenger among others, is located close to Bath Hill East car park, opposite the duck pond.
Three measured and marked park trails for running, jogging and walking will also be put in during April.
Each piece features a QR code that can be scanned with a mobile phone to access instructions on how to use the equipment properly. Bath and North East Somerset Council also plans to offer fitness sessions on the new gym equipment with an instructor.
Starting the month, the council’s Active Lifestyles and Health Improvement Team is providing an outdoor fitness coach and running leader to run sessions on the new equipment and park trails.
Run Fit classes will start on Tuesday, April 14, meeting at the park at 7.45am. These 45-minute cross-training sessions combine running and functional fitness exercises and cost £3 per session.
A Run Start beginners’ running course will also be available, meeting on Thursday, April 16, at 5pm, at Keynsham Leisure Centre.
This eight-week course is designed for anyone 16 or over who wants to start running. This is a course for complete beginners who have done very little running. Each session is progressive, with the aim of participants being able to run 5k by the end of the course, which costs £30.
The gym and running trails are part of a £30,000 programme of improvements for the park, which also includes six new welcome signs, more planting and the widening of the entrance from the High Street. An historic stone seat that used to be on the town’s old county bridge will also be installed in the park at a location yet to be decided.
