Keynsham IKB students celebrate milestone for new school

Students at Keynsham’s new IKB Studio School are keeping a close eye on their new building as it takes shape – and last month they marked a milestone in the project.
The school opened in September and its first pupils are currently based in temporary accommodation in the Wellsway School grounds.
Work by developer Kier on their new £3.4 million building is well under way, however, with a topping-out ceremony held on November 10 to celebrate construction reaching the highest point of the build.
Debbie Gibbs, IKB Studio School principal, said: “I am so pleased that Kier has reached this crucial milestone in the construction of IKB. It is so much more than just a building and on completion will support and inspire the dreams and aspirations we have for all our students and staff.
The IKB – or Isambard Kingdom Brunel – Studio School will eventually cater for 300 students, with a focus on science, technology engineering and maths. One storey of the new building will be devoted to workshop facilities.
Kier says the school will open its doors in September 2016.
