Change of scene for Sportscene's Keri as Keynsham store closes

After 22 years of kitting out local youngsters with their new school uniforms, Keynsham’s Sportscene closed its doors on July 15 – but not without a celebration.
Owner Keri Loughran’s family organised a surprise party for her as she shut up shop for the last time, inviting friends, fellow traders and customers to join them in raising a toast to the Temple Street store.
Keri first opened Sportscene in Temple Court before moving into larger premises on Temple Street a couple of years later.
She said: “Running the business has been brilliant, I’ve had such good fun, had fantastic staff, met lovely people and made good friends.
“One of the best things is seeing children who have come in for their uniforms come back years later with their own children. My own family have all worked here over the years, too.
“The last day was chaotic as we had the surprise party going on, my husband Graham was pulling the place apart as we had to restore it to its original condition and staff were still serving customers coming in to buy things – but it was great!”
While she won’t be running the shop, mum-of-four Keri won’t be short of things to do as she will be looking after her parents and has seven grandchildren under the age of seven. She is also hoping to spend a lot more time perfecting a hobby – golf!
“I have been learning for years and now I would like to do a bit more – I love it as it’s such a great way to unwind,” she said.
Keri said she had received some lovely letters from local schools to wish her well and added: “It’s ended on a good note and I will really miss the shop as it’s been such a big part of our lives but it’s the right time.
“I want to say a huge thank you to my lovely staff Grace and Molly, who have been fantastic – I will miss them the most and I will definitely go on to spend time with them.
“I also want to thank my family for all their support over the years and it was great for them all to be at the party.”
