Avon Valley Wildlife and Adventure Park among area's top three large attractions

A popular Keynsham farm park has been named one of the region’s top three large attractions at an award ceremony.
The Douglas family’s Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park scooped bronze in the Large Attraction of the Year category at the 2016/17 Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards.
Avon Valley made it to the shortlist after three stages of judging, including looking at the attractions’ websites, online reviews, and social media and making “mystery visitor” inspections before a judging panel chose the finalists.
At the awards ceremony at DoubleTree by Hilton, Cadbury House last month, the Keynsham attraction was up against The Roman Baths and the National Trust’s Tyntesfield, which eventually took gold and silver respectively.
Doug Douglas said: “I’m so incredibly proud of my team, to win the Large Attraction award alongside such well-known attractions such as Tyntesfield, National Trust and The Roman Baths is a massive achievement for our family-run business.
“I hope those who visit the park enjoy making as many memories here as I had as a child, and my daughter is making now.”
Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park was launched by John Douglas in 1989 to provide access to wildlife and nature to people living in Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas at its 90-acre site.
Son Doug took over management of the park in 2014, its 25th year, and has introduced new attractions, including an animal-handling and interaction barn, new play equipment and activity equipment and seasonal events such as FEAR at Avon Valley for Halloween and the Christmas Experience.
Presenting the award, judges said Avon Valley was a “great attraction with exceptional customer service” and the park will now be entered in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2017 along with the other winners.
